China is a first-to-file jurisdiction: whoever files first owns the mark — including trademark squatters who register foreign brands and then demand payment or block your goods at customs. If you manufacture in China, an unregistered brand can even be stopped from exporting. Registration is cheap insurance; recovery is expensive litigation.

Options include opposition or invalidation before the CNIPA (especially if you can prove prior use and reputation), bad-faith claims, negotiation to buy the mark back, or customs and platform enforcement against their misuse. The right path depends on the filing date, the squatter's behavior and your evidence — we assess this routinely.

Roughly 9–12 months from application to registration if unopposed: formal examination, substantive examination, then a three-month publication period. Filing early matters — your priority date is everything in a first-to-file system.
