Cross-border trade often involves various disputes. Generally, when the disputed amount is less than USD 10k, many clients, considering the relatively small amount and the significant time and effort required, often find it difficult to recover the payment and are forced to give up on their rights. However, the following case of a Brazilian client is quite different.
The Brazilian buyer and the Shandong seller reached an agreement on the purchase of steel products. After the buyer paid the deposit, the seller failed to deliver the goods and went unresponsive during the buyer’s attempts to communicate, resulting in the buyer’s rights being compromised.

Given the relatively low amount involved and the potentially high cost, the buyer initially considered giving up. However, in order to protect their legitimate rights, the buyer ultimately decided to seek professional legal support. The buyer then engaged the legal team of Lawyer Larry Zhou from Landing (Shenzhen) Law Office, with Lawyer Larry and intern lawyer Laney specifically in charge.
In the face of this cross-border trade dispute, our legal team took swift action. After taking over the case, we immediately sent a lawyer’s letter to the seller, clearly pointing out their breach of contract and the legal responsibilities they should bear, including civil compensation and potential administrative penalties. At the same time, our lawyers assisted the client in collecting key evidence. During the investigation, we discovered that the seller’s business operations might involve irregularities, which became an important bargaining chip in the subsequent negotiations and laid the foundation for successfully resolving the dispute.
Driven by our lawyers' series of professional actions, the seller finally agreed to negotiate with the buyer. After several rounds of discussions, both parties reached a settlement agreement. The seller refunded the agreed amount to the buyer’s account and covered the bank charges, after which the client withdrew the previously submitted complaint letter.
Currently, the Shandong seller has completed the refund as per the agreement, successfully safeguarding the client’s legitimate rights and interests. This case fully demonstrates that even with a seemingly small dispute amount, effective resolution of cross-border trade disputes can still be achieved through professional legal means.
